Creigiau Netball Club was formed in 1988 by a group of young mums in Creigiau who were looking for fitness and fun. They started out training at the newly constructed outdoor tennis courts at the recreation ground in Creigiau.
Eventually a team was formed to play friendly matches, and then league netball.
In 2006 the club expanded to be based out of the recently built Sports Hall at Radyr School, and last year Howells School Sports Hall as well. By being able to book a facility for the entire evening, a thriving junior section was established with progression from 8 to 14 years playing local junior league netball. The senior section's numbers have increased and will continue to do so as the 14 year olds join from the junior section. As the senior section has become so large it was necessary to base one group (the under 14s) out of Howells Sports Hall.
During 2007/08 the junior club promoted 7 teams from Under 10 to Under 14 with every member being able to play competitive netball.
Last season the senior club promoted 8 teams - these were three in the Cardiff and District league, one in the WNA satellite league, a mixed team and three summer league teams. Various teams took part in a number of tournaments, including two in a mixed tournament and one in an open club tournament.
The senior club held their presentation dinner at the Creigiau Inn which was extremely well supported and a number of awards presented to this year's successful players.
Once again we supported the Creigiau Carnival by running the infamous "Slider Hockey" activity, the event is run by Creigiau 23 who have been very generous in their support of the club over a number of years.
For the second year running an event was held for past members who were the founders 25 years ago and money raised was donated to the club in a fund named after one of the original members - Barbara Twinning - who sadly died at the end '2006. This fund is used to support members who have difficulty meeting the costs of membership.
Looking forward to this season the club has been able to send a number of players on coaching courses to assist with the coaching requirements throughout the club. Claire Knowles is currently the head coach, and has been for the past 3 years.
The ethos of the club has always been to include all, regardless of ability, and give everyone an opportunity to play competitive netball. This will continue with the added provision that we hope to help every member achieve their full potential through representing the club.
